In our study of economics, we created a few questions that can lead into great discussions.  Please discuss a few of these questions with your family.  We would love to know what you talked about. Please post some of your responses.

  1. How does the Earth make so much metal?
  2. What would happen if one of our natural resources ran out?
  3. How did they come up with the 3 types of resources (natural, human, and capital)?
  4. Why is wood so important?
  5. How can water and soil make electricity?
  6. How do wires hold electricity in them?
  7. Why are there just three major resources?
  8. What would we do if we didn’t have water or soil?
  9. Where does nature come from?  How did it start?
  10. Do human resources come from natural resources?
  11. Is there another way to power a city?
  12. Is there a better way to make concrete besides using sand?
  13. Is it possible to make electricity without water and coal?
  14. Would it be better if we made less factories?
  15. Should we stop using gas powered machines?  What might happen if we did?
  16. Would it be better if we used less water?

We have been studying animal adaptations in class.  We have discussed physical and behavioral adaptations that animals have.  We got into a discussion about the body coverings that protect some animals.  At the students’ request, I am posting the following questions to research.

1.  Does a lobster have an exoskeleton or a shell?

2. What is the difference between an exoskeleton and a shell?

3.  Does a penguin have feathers or no feathers?

Please respond to these questions and post any other questions you may have.  Remember to only include your first name and last initial.  Approved comments will be posted within 24-48 hours.

We have been discussing the three states of matter in class. We have conducted many experiments in the lab to familiarize ourselves with the tools of a scientist and how to go about testing our many hypotheses. We have proven, through hands-on activities, that you can change an object physically (ex: cutting, tearing, bending, coloring, heating, cooling, popping, etc.) and the matter remains the same. The only thing that changes is its shape and size.

I want to know: What state of matter (solid, liquid, or gas) do you think is most important to life on Earth and why?

When you respond, please be sure to explain why you chose the state of matter you did. In other words —- PROVE IT!! Is there a right or wrong answer?

Scroll to the bottom of this screen to post your comment. All approved comments will be posted in 24-48 hours. Please remember to include your first name and last initial ONLY. Invite your friends and family to respond to this one. Let’s see what they think!
